Feeling a little torn trying to decide where the balance is? Should we leave the decor up and enjoy the holiday longer, or begin the clean-up process, which can take awhile and be daunting?

Here are 4 things you can do today to make progress on the clean-up project, while still leaving the decorations intact to savor a bit longer:

1. Recycle boxes and packaging. These are adding to the visual chaos—get em gone!

2. Store reusable gift boxes and wrapping supplies to use in the future. Anything non-Christmas-specific can be used for birthday wrapping throughout the year.

3. Delete all the online order emails you no longer need, now that the gifts are given. Save and act on any emails that are needed for returns or exchanges.

4. Unsubscribe from email lists that served you at Christmas but won’t be needed any more.

This is Mary. Look closely: She is glued together from dozens of broken pieces.

One day, decades ago, Mary fell from my mantle, shattering on the tile hearth below.

A friend was with me, and together we knelt and painstakingly searched and pieced and glued until she was restored. It took hours. She has gaps; some pieces were never found. But she is now my most treasured piece of the whole set.

This Mary represents the true gift of Christmas: Jesus sent to make whole what is broken. With every passing Christmas, I learn even more just how much I need that. While I had to leave some gaps on Mary, He never does. He fills them all. 🤍

A wrapping station can totally simplify your gift-wrapping jobs! (More about this another day.)

Tip 2: Wrap gifts as they arrive or get purchased, don’t wait. Half an hour each evening will save you HOURS on December 24! This is one job that’s worth staying up late for—a little less sleep now is better than losing hours’ worth on Christmas Eve.

Tip 3: Wrap all gifts for (or from) the same person in one style of paper. This makes them easy to find in the pile under the tree!

How did I not figure this out before?? Did you know this trick? I’m embarrassed I’ve never done this until now!

While I’m here, here’s the recipe for these soft gingersnaps:

In a bowl, combine 1 and 1/4 c. flour, 1 c. brown sugar, 3/4 c. oil or melted butter, 1/4 c. molasses, 1 egg, 1 t. soda, 1 t. ginger, 1 t. cinnamon, 1/2 t. ground cloves. Mix then add 1 c. additional flour and mix again. Roll into balls and roll in sugar—or shake in a baggie of sugar—then bake at 375 for 6-8 minutes. Take out when set but still very soft.

God showed up for me big-time today. I walked into the thrift shop and right in front of my eyes was a whole rack of Nativity costumes! We have rented dozens of costumes every year for our production for as long as I can remember. No more renting!

Trusting that God will provide tends to work out. We sometimes say, “When we worry about God’s work, he worries about ours for us.”

This was a perfect example of that today. We focus on providing a spiritual Christmas experience, and he helps us out every step of the way! 🙌🏼

I knew I was not up for re-thinking, re-researching, and re-Pinterest-ing Valentines traditions every time my kids changed ages or preferences.

We honed in on 3 simple things and have stuck to them through the decades. Flowers from Dad, a special family sit-down breakfast, and decorating sugar cookies. That’s it. Doable. Fun. Low-stress.

Keep it simple!

Get these grape tomatoes from Costco.
They stay fresh on the counter all week.
Grab a handful while waiting for water to boil or waiting something to heat in the microwave.

Or do what I’m doing here and put them on top of avocado toast.

Another easy way to eat tomatoes is to put some handfuls in snack-size bags and grab one when you leave the house to carpool or run an errand.
